In the German language the Q leads a sad and lonely life as a member of the alphabet - however indispensable it is to play the flute with Quality, found a Quintet and blend the five instruments into a unique Quintessence!!
According to Aristotle, the (lat. for "the fifth being") means ether, the fifth and finest substance and all-pervasive element.
In the Middle Ages alchimists considered the Quintessence to be the unity and union of all contrasts. In the figurative sense Quintessence is the innermost core of a thing, or else the result of thorough deliberation. No matter if what you admire in "Quintessence" is rather the etherial, fragile sound of the flute or the unusual union of all contrasting registers of the five flutes - or even the flautists, for that matter! – the result of the concerts by The Leipzig Flute Ensemble Quintessence will not fail to convince you!

The Leipzig Flute Ensemble Quintessence was founded in 1996. The five musicians got to know each other in the well-known orchestras of Leipzig. Excelling prize winners in international competitions, soloists much in demand in various German ensembles of chamber music and the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, the musicians are engaged as principal players with the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the MDR Symphony Orchestra and the Staatskapelle of Halle.
Quintessence have made it their task to present the whole range of the sound and charm of all members of the flute family, taking up old and new forms in concert: pieces amusing and serious, informing and entertaining.
The "t(h)rilling" ensemble masters a broad repertory ranging from Renaissance to modern times, from classical tunes to jazz, from commissioned works of contemporary composers to their own ingenious arrangements of symphonic compositions.
